Chasing Waves & Sunsets : A Complete Grand Cayman Travel Itinerary

If you’ve been dreaming of crystal-clear turquoise waters, powdery coral-sand beaches, and unforgettable underwater encounters, look no further than Grand Cayman. Whether you’re gliding alongside gentle stingrays in the open ocean, relaxing under palm trees, or indulging in world-class Caribbean cuisine, this tropical haven packs an incredible mix of adventure and serenity into one seamless getaway.
What makes Grand Cayman truly special is its unique blend of qualities: it is breathtakingly beautiful, vibrant and rich, yet remarkably clean, modern, and easy to navigate. Whether you are looking for high-end luxury, thrilling water sports, or simply a safe and serene spot to unwind by turquoise waters, this island delivers on every front.
Four days is the sweet spot for this island escape. It is long enough to experience the vibrant pulse of the west side, explore the peaceful shorelines of the North Side, and still leave plenty of time to sink into "island time." Before we dive into the day-by-day itinerary, here is everything you need to know to plan the perfect trip to Grand Cayman.
History & Geography of The Island
The largest of the three Cayman Islands, Grand Cayman is a low-lying coral island in the western Caribbean, dominated by the famous crescent-shaped Seven Mile Beach on the west and the expansive North Sound. Sighted by Christopher Columbus in 1503 and named Las Tortugas for its abundant sea turtles, the island later became a British Overseas Territory known for seafaring, turtle conservation, and rich Caribbean culinary traditions.
Best Time To Visit
November through April offers sunshine, warm breezes, and minimal rainfall. May and November are ideal shoulder months for fewer crowds and great weather. Tropical year-round with temperatures hovering between 75°F and 88°F (24°C–31°C). Rainy season runs from May to October, usually featuring quick afternoon showers rather than full washouts. We went during 4th of July weekend. It did rain, heavily at times, between 2pm and 6pm, almost everyday. This gave us the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon siesta and take a break from the days activities.
Currency & Cards
Cayman Islands Dollar (KYD) is the local currency. However, US Dollars are universally accepted everywhere across the island, and credit cards are widely used. We never felt the need to exchange money or draw from an ATM.
Where To Stay
For our home base, we stayed at the Hampton by Hilton Grand Cayman, and we loved every minute of it, especially when we were surprised with an upgrade to a spacious, beautifully appointed suite. The hotel's location is unbeatable, offering quick, easy access to Seven Mile Beach where we spent every evening watching stunning Caribbean sunsets. Each morning started on a delicious note with a fantastic breakfast at the adjacent restaurant, Ms. Piper's Cottage Kitchen, a lush and charming spot by the pool that instantly put us on island time.

Getting Around
While Grand Cayman offers public minibuses and local ride-sharing options, renting a car is by far the best way to explore the island at your own pace. The island is surprisingly vast, and having your own set of wheels makes venturing out to spots like Starfish Point, Rum Point, or East End completely stress-free. We rented our car through Andy's Rent A Car, and the rates were unbelievably cheap! The only learning curve is getting comfortable driving on the left side of the road, but traffic is generally calm, and you'll get the hang of the roundabouts in no time.
Where To Eat
Grand Cayman is a haven for food lovers, and plant-based travelers will be pleasantly surprised by how accommodating the island is. There are plenty of fantastic vegetarian options scattered across the island, ranging from upscale, high-end fine dining spots to relaxed, casual beachfront eateries.
For the ultimate convenience, variety, and value, our top recommendation is Foster’s Supermarket at Camana Bay. Their massive hot food bar and deli section is an absolute hidden gem where you can pick up freshly prepared dishes from virtually every cuisine, including delicious Indian food. It’s perfect for grabbing a quick, flavorful lunch, packing a picnic for the beach, or enjoying a casual meal with endless options for everyone.

The ultimate 4-Day Itinerary For Sun, Sand & Island Gems
Day 1: Arrival, Local Flavors & Seven Mile Beach Sunset
Morning to Early Afternoon: Arrival & Gourmet Grocery Stop
After touching down at Owen Roberts International Airport and picking up our rental car from Andy’s, we made our very first stop at Foster’s Supermarket in Camana Bay. This modern, expansive grocery hub is a savior for travelers, especially since we were looking for quick, high-quality vegetarian meals. Their massive deli section featured hot buffets, custom panini stations, fresh pasta salads, and ready-to-go wraps. They even have an Indian food counter! We grabbed a fresh lunch to take to our hotel so we didn't have to worry about finding a restaurant right after traveling.
Afternoon: Check-In & Rest at Hampton by Hilton
We headed over to the Hampton by Hilton Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach to check in. The property is lush, vibrant, and centrally located. We were fortunate enough to land a suite upgrade, thanks to our IHG status. We loved the extra living space to unpack and settle in. We took a couple of hours to enjoy our deli lunch and had a restful nap to recharge from our flight.
Late Afternoon: Sunset Walk on Seven Mile Beach
In the late afternoon, we took the short walk from the hotel straight onto the world-famous Seven Mile Beach, which was just a few steps from the hotel. The ocean there is famously calm, flat, and warm, making it feel like a giant, natural swimming pool. Because the beach faced directly west, it offered us front-row seats to spectacular Caribbean sunsets. We spent the golden hour wading through the shallow water and watching the sky turn vibrant shades of pink, orange, and gold.

Evening: Waterfront Dining at Agua
We drove over to Camana Bay for dinner at Agua, a chic waterfront restaurant that specialized in Italian-Mediterranean fusion. We found Agua to be especially welcoming for plant-based diners, as it offered dedicated vegetarian menus. We enjoyed handmade gnocchi, vegetarian ceviche, and rich, flavorful pasta dishes while soaking in the marina breeze.

Day 2: East End Road Trip, Pure Veg Eats & Coastal Snorkeling
Morning: Hotel Breakfast & East End Exploration
We started our morning with a scrumptious breakfast of fruits, cereal, eggs and tropical fruits at Ms. Piper's Cottage Kitchen right by the pool.

Afterward, we took a scenic road trip out to the island’s East End to visit The Blowholes. Standing along the rugged coastline of Grand Cayman, the Blowholes were one of the most fascinating natural wonders we experienced on the island. As powerful waves crashed against the ironshore, seawater surged through underground cavities and shot high into the air, creating spectacular sprays that looked like nature’s own fountains. The sound of the rushing water and the dramatic bursts of mist made the visit both exciting and memorable. Surrounded by stunning ocean views and the beauty of the Caribbean coastline, we spent time taking photos, enjoying the refreshing sea breeze, and marveling at the power of the ocean.

On our way back from the blowholes, we made a quick stop to check out Spotts Beach. While the stretch of sand itself was undeniably beautiful, the current that day was strong and far from favorable for off-beach snorkeling, so we didn't stay long. Even so, it’s a gorgeous spot well worth a quick visit if you're exploring that side of the island.
On our drive back west, we stopped at the Tortuga Rum Company Ltd gift shop to sample and pick up their world-famous, vegetarian-friendly rum cakes to take home as souvenirs. Visiting the Tortuga Rum Company in Grand Cayman was a fun and flavorful experience that gave us a taste of the island’s rich rum-making tradition. We enjoyed sampling a variety of Caribbean rum cakes and learning about the craftsmanship behind Tortuga’s famous products. The visit also gave us the chance to browse local souvenirs, making it a perfect stop for both shopping and experiencing a piece of Caymanian culture.
Midday: Pure Vegetarian Indian Lunch at Desi Kitchen
On our way back toward Seven Mile Beach, we stopped in George Town for lunch at Desi Kitchen, Grand Cayman’s only pure-vegetarian Indian spot. It was a local favorite serving authentic comfort food like thalis, crispy chaats, and flavorful tandoori dishes. We headed back to the hotel afterward for an afternoon nap during the peak heat of the day.
Late Afternoon: Shallow Snorkeling at Governor’s Beach
As the afternoon cooled down, we headed over to Governor’s Beach (located right near the Governor's official residence). With easy parking, the entry there was smooth, sandy, and completely flat, making it stress-free for non-swimmers and casual snorkelers alike. In knee-to-waist-deep water, we easily floated right off the shore and spotted colorful schools of sergeant majors, parrotfish, and blue tangs swimming around small coral formations. We stayed on the sand to capture another unforgettable sunset.

Evening: Dinner at Casa 43 Mexican Kitchen
We ended our day at Casa 43 Mexican Kitchen along Seven Mile Beach. Known for its vibrant atmosphere and authentic flavors, they offered incredible vegetarian options, including house-made guacamole, Mexico City-style street corn, and customizable veggie tacos loaded with roasted vegetables and fresh salsas.
Day 3: Stingray City, Starfish Point & Bioluminescent Bay
Morning: The Ultimate Boat Excursion
We fueled up with breakfast at the resort before heading out for the ultimate Cayman experience: a boat tour to Stingray City Sandbar which included some time for snorkeling and a stop at Starfish Point. We booked our trip through Expedia.
After being picked up at our hotel at 8:30am, we embarked on a guided boat tour to Grand Cayman’s iconic aquatic treasures. Cruising out over the crystal-clear turquoise waters brought us first to the famous Stingray City Sandbar, where we stood right in the waist-deep, warm Caribbean sea and interacted gently with the friendly southern stingrays as they glided gracefully around us. With assitance from our guides, we were able to hold the stingrays, kiss them (supposed to bring 7 years of good luck), and even get a back rub from them!

Next, our stop at the vibrant Coral Gardens offered an incredible snorkeling experience, immersing us in a colorful underwater world teeming with tropical fish and stunning coral formations. We wrapped up the adventure at the tranquil, shallow shores of Starfish Point, relaxing in the sun and spotting vibrant red starfish resting peacefully in the clear shallows. Following instructions from our guide, we were careful not to lift the starfish out of the water while we clicked our pictures.

Afternoon: Easy Deli Lunch & Rest
After returning to shore, we swung by Foster’s to pick up fresh vegetarian sandwiches for lunch. We brought them back to our hotel room for a relaxed lunch and a long afternoon nap to recover from the morning in the sun and sea.
Evening: Rum Point Sunset & Bioluminescence Night Tour
In the late afternoon, we drove up toward the North Side of the island. Driving to the northern end of Grand Cayman requires renting a car, as taxis are virtually nonexistent up that way. Once we made the scenic drive up to Rum Point, we found the property and its breathtaking beach to be an absolute dream. We took time to unwind on the shore with a refreshing drink in hand while watching a stunning Caribbean sunset paint the sky.

Our Night Tour Experience
Later, we hopped on our electric boat tour with Cayman Kayaks, an operator we cannot recommend highly enough, to witness the magic of the bioluminescence in Bioluminescent Bay. Experiencing the shimmering blue glow up close was incredible, even if the light was too delicate to capture through our smartphone lenses. On our peaceful return ride across the dark water, our guide shared stories about the constellations overhead, capping off the night with a crystal-clear view of the Milky Way stretching across the night sky

Day 4: Shoreline Hopping, Italian Delights & Farewell Dinner
Morning to Afternoon: Beach Day at Governor’s Beach & The Westin Cabana
After yet another delicious breakfast at Ms. Piper's, we spent our final full day completely immersed in island luxury along Seven Mile Beach. We headed over near Governor’s Beach and checked into a private beach cabana at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort.
Renting a resort cabana was the ultimate way to elevate our beach day. With dedicated attendant service, plush shaded loungers, cooling ocean breezes, and instant access to the softest sand on the island, we truly unwound in style. The water right off the shore there was remarkably clear, shallow, and calm, making it effortless to float, swim, or wade out with a cold drink in hand.

Midday: High-Speed Thrills on the Ocean in a Ferrari JetCar
For the ultimate adrenaline rush and one of the most unique experiences in Grand Cayman, we took a spin on a Ferrari JetCar! These sleek, high-powered watercraft were shaped just like luxury sports cars, complete with steering wheels, gas pedals, and functional dashboards, but powered by jet propulsion to slide and fly across the open ocean.
Cruising out onto the open, crystal-clear turquoise waters of Seven Mile Beach behind the wheel of a bright red "ocean Ferrari" was wildly fun. We experienced the thrill of driving a supercar combined with the freedom of a jet ski, carving through the waves and blasting across the Caribbean Sea with the coastline in the background. It was an absolute blast, incredibly photogenic, and an unforgettable highlight of the entire trip!

Evening: Celebratory Fine Dining at Southern Spice
We celebrated our final night in Grand Cayman with dinner at Southern Spice Indian Restaurant. Specializing in authentic South and North Indian cuisines, Southern Spice offered an extensive, clearly labeled vegetarian menu complete with crispy dosas, freshly baked naan, aromatic Biryanis, and rich curries.
Departure Day
Morning: Breakfast, Check-Out & Airport Transfer
We enjoyed one final breakfast at Ms. Piper's, packed up our bags, and checked out. We took the short drive back to the airport, returned our rental car to Andy's, and boarded our flight home with amazing memories and stunning photos of Grand Cayman!
